Hacienda Aromal

Hacienda Aromal is a tourism project developed by a 100% Guanacastecan family. It is located in El Triunfo, Nacascolo, Liberia, between the Horizontes Experimental Station and Santa Rosa National Park. We are a natural biological corridor between these two conservation areas, which allows us to be immersed in a vast variety of flora and fauna.

We manage 1,200 hectares, half of which are protected as Tropical Dry Forest under FONAFIFO’s conservation program. The remaining area is dedicated to cattle breeding and fattening, a family tradition and main activity since the 1780s.

With the goal of preserving these conservation areas, we decided to responsibly develop tourism activities that allow us to share the natural, historical, and cultural richness of the property with all who visit us.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy our 6-cable zip line, soaring above trees and deep canyons with breathtaking natural views, including scenic landscapes of the Rincón de la Vieja, Tenorio, and Miravalles volcanoes.

If you wish to enjoy a horseback ride under the shade of the forest, along peaceful trails accompanied by birdsong and the chance to spot wildlife such as tapirs, monkeys, and—if you are lucky—a puma, this is the perfect place.

Our expert sabaneros, together with well-trained horses, will complete the experience with a cattle drive through the pastures all the way to the Hacienda. They will make you feel like a true sabanero for a day, creating an unforgettable adventure!

Our “fonda” is a journey back in time. This cultural experience allows visitors to learn how daily life is still lived in some traditional Guanacastecan homes. Corn, a fundamental element of our diet since Indigenous times, is the heart of the experience: you’ll learn about its milling process and finish by making your own tortillas, rosquillas, and empanaditas, which you’ll then get to taste.

You will also discover a traditional sugar mill (trapiche), the process and products derived from sugarcane juice, and even taste some of them. Finally, you will learn about our famous “grain of gold” coffee—its varieties, harvesting, and of course, you’ll get to enjoy a freshly brewed cup. All of this comes together to create a truly rich cultural experience.

For those seeking an adrenaline rush, you can explore the Hacienda on our ATVs, driving safely along designated trails within the property. You’ll encounter a wide variety of vegetation, wildlife, and stunning landscapes along the way.

To wrap up your morning on the perfect note, you’ll be welcomed with a delicious Guanacastecan “casado” featuring the authentic flavors of our local cuisine, prepared by 100% Guanacastecan hands. Enjoy it while sharing stories about your cultural and adventure-filled experience at Hacienda Aromal.

By the way, why the name Hacienda Aromal?

The aromo is a shrub native to this area, known for its strong and distinctive scent, small yellow flowers, and sharp thorns.
